Copy Protection

Piracy is a concern for software publishers and mastering facilities. Our copy protection options are seamlessly integrated so from the operator's perspective copy protected jobs master like normal jobs. DCA products automatically check to see if the input media is a copy protected master image and then master as such. The application screen will display that the disc is copy protected.

DCA supports the following copy protection options during the mastering process:

HD-DVD and Blu-ray Copy Protection

AACS

AACS or Advanced Access Content System, is a specification for managing content stored on high definition blue laser prerecorded and recorded optical media.
AACS logo
For optical disc replicators, AACS will be applied during pre-mastering and the AACS encrypted input media is used for mastering.

DVD Copy Protection

CSS

Content Scrambling System (CSS) is used to protect a DVD from two kinds of pirate devices: DVD video decoders and recordable storage devices. It does this by encrypting the content in such a way that the device and disc must both be licensed and registered for CSS to decrypt the content. DCA's MIS can be used to automatically assign CSS keys within a customer's media. This requires the Replication facility to be licensed for CSS from the DVD Copy Control Organization (CCA).

Copy Protection Prerecorded Media

Copy Protection for Prerecorded Media (CPPM) is used to protect DVD-Audio discs, much as CSS protects DVD-Video discs. DCA's MIS can be used to automatically assign CPPM keys within a customer's media. This requires the Replication facility to be licensed for CPPM from the DVD Copy Control Organization (CCA).

Macrovision Ripguard

CD Copy Protection

First4Internet

First4Internet has developed XCP© (Extended Copy Protection) - copy control software aimed at protecting the rights of Artists and Record Labels from the unauthorised and illegal copying of digital music and film both on CD, DVD and on the Internet.

SmarteSolutions' SmarteMaster

SmarteSolutions' SmarteMASTER offers a piracy protection logistics solution for in-house CD or network mastering.
SmarteSolutions logo
SmarteMaster allows vendors to securely and efficiently produce CD masters with piracy management controls and ship protected gold masters or send protected images over a network, to authorized replicators, duplicators and beta customers. This reduces the possibility of human error or the distribution of faulty CDs to beta customers or testing teams.

SafeDisc® 1.0 and 2.0, SafeAudio

DCA can provide Macrovision SafeDisc 1.0 and 2.0 and SafeAudio copy protection as an option to MIS. After you obtain a SafeDisc license from Macrovision, we provide an updated version of MIS that includes the SafeDisc copy protection functionality.

When using SafeDisc or SafeAudio, software publishers use a software toolkit to encrypt data onto a CD-R.
Macrovision logo
The mastering facility then uses MIS to add the SafeDisc or SafeAudio digital signature to the glass master to complete the copy protection process. This non-reproducable digital signature cannot be copied by ordinary means; it must be present for an end user to be able to run the executable file on the disc and prevents unauthorized copies of the software from being used. Only properly prepared SafeDisc or SafeAudio masters can be used to master a job. If a SafeDisc or SafeAudio protected replica is used instead of the master, the job will fail. This protects users of Macrovision's copy protection against piracy from non-licensed mastering facilities.

The replicator is provided with modified MIS software for their laser beam recorders. Mastering facilities interested in providing CodeLok as a copy protection option for their customers must first obtain a license from PanLok.

MLS LaserLock®
